2024 Summer Tennis is in full swing

All our leagues and socials are up and running, thanks to all our coordinators and volunteers, we have just over 420 registered members - so things are hopping.  Your Executive has been hard at work organizing and setting things up for a full summer of tennis.  Some of the highlights so far are:

• we have great participation in all of our Socials and Leagues, most have waiting/sub lists,
• both of our Social tournaments have been lots of fun and well attended - Opening Day, and Canada Day,
• we held a Mixed Doubles tournament with over 40 players, this was organized by Tanya and Sean and there was some great tennis with lots of prizes
• July 7th our club hosted the TENNIS ROCKS junior tournament, it is a grass roots tournament sponsored by Tennis Canada, Ontario Tennis Association and Inter County Tennis Association.  We had over 70 juniors registered from age 8 to 17, as well as a team from our club and the tennis was fabulous.  The OTA also brought their SMASH cage so all participants could check the speed of their serve.  Thanks to all club members who volunteered to make this a great event.  We will be hosting this again next year.
• our competitive teams did great this year - - Durham A team finished in 1st place (by 1 point) and won the Championship for the 2nd year running!!, Durham B finished in 5th place and unfortunately didn't make it into the playoffs Durham C team also finished in 1st place and lost a tight battle in the Finals!  Our Inter County Ladies team is in 3rd place and we have two teams in the Durham ladies league and they are in 4th and 5th place!! --- GO AJAX GO!!  Congratulations to all of our teams for another successful season.  And a BIG thanks to all of our Captains and Co-Captains for volunteering.
• we purchased score keeping boards for each court which appear to being used.  We also purchased two new court roller pads for our rollers and a second squeegee to help clean the courts after a rainfall and we have 2 more court benches coming soon.

Here are a couple of house keeping items we wanted to remind members of:

• please remember to lock the gate if you are the last one leaving the courts,
• ensure you take all your belongings and garbage with you once you are finished playing,
• please don't move the benches from between the courts,
• if you use any of the court cleaning equipment please ensure that you hang it back up on the fence.  Especially the rollers if they are left on the ground we they will develop flat spots and become useless for cleaning the rain.  If you find any of our equipment is broken please let us know.

The club has grown from 190 members in 2021 to just over 420 in 2024 and so does our need for more volunteers.  With a club growing like ours communication is important so if anyone likes to write a newsletter or would like to look after the clubs Facebook page, how about if someone would like to help Steve and Stephen with our court maintenance, Annie with our Social Committee.....  There's lots of little jobs that would make this club even better.  PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP -  Some of our Executive members have been contributing for many years and it's only fair that we spread the work around,  Talk to one of the Executive members if you would like to learn more, or drop us a line at  ajaxtennisclub@gmail.com  

Here is a tentative list of some of the events we have planned for the remainder of the year, mark your calendar and watch out for the registration email:

• TBC - Club Championship Mixed Doubles Tournament
• Courts closed September 14th 10 - 1pm for Tennis Clubs of Canada to hold an OPEN HOUSE
• September 21st (date TBC) - Year End Social
• September 23rd (date TBC)- Annual General Meeting
