The NETS ARE UP, AND the courts are ready for action! It's still a little cool but the tennis will be heating up very soon - all returning members should have received the gate lock combo in their renewal/joining email. We have a packed Tennis calendar for this summer, starting on May 1st. We have included all of our Competitive Leagues back into our schedule along with some fun socials and tournaments, hopefully there will be no or limited COVID restrictions to work around - fingers crossed!. It is important to note that we have cancelled the requirement to submit a COVID pre-screening form prior to each time you play. BUT we remind everyone if you are not feeling well, please DO NOT ENTER THE TENNIS CLUB.
Hopefully all our returning members have received their membership renewal notices and been have able to renew on our website. If not you can click on the JOIN link above to the right, your login credentials will be the same as last year. We need everyone who is interested in playing any of our competitive leagues or house leagues/socials to sign up ASAP as spots are going quickly and you don't want to be disappointed. Don't worry if you have forgotten your password just click on the Forgot Password link to reset it. We have organized things a little differently from last year -when you register you can make all your choices for our Competitive Leagues and Intra Club House Leagues/Drop-ins, any activity that is included in the price of membership. We have moved all add-on programs like Junior Lessons, Day Camps and Adult Coaching programs to the EVENTS tab, where you can sign up and Register. You can also see a summary of all of our Coaching programs under our Pro's Corner/Lessons tab to get all the important information on these exciting programs and a little more information on our Head Pro (Graham Castanheiro) and his Coaching team. Graham is excited to return to the club and we hopefully won't have to deal with any restrictions as we did last year. Graham brings an enthusiasm to his Tennis Canada based Junior program, that makes it fun along with skill development. We have added a Club sponsored (no charge) Junior Open Play on Sundays from 2pm - 4pm, where our Juniors can come out and play with other Juniors their age/skill level under the supervision of one of our Pro's. This isn't lessons, it's more of a drop-in opportunity to have some fun while building on the skills from the Junior lessons - all Juniors welcome!
At our Annual General Meeting held last September a new Executive was elected as follows:
President - Scott Smith
Vice President - Lyn Capps
Treasurer - Frank Cooper
Membership - Annie A. Marquez
Secretary - Vahisan Kumaaravel
The club would like to thank outgoing Executive members Dave McCarroll and Bill Fowler for their work and support during the 2021 season.
As you know the club operates solely on volunteers and if anyone would like to help in any small way, just let us know. You can click on the link below to volunteer for one of our committees and be part of these teams - Social Committee Coordinator Annie Marquez, Court Maintenance Coordinator John Annibale, and Tournament Director Tanya Williams - the club appreciates any help you can give. We are still looking for someone that would like to take on the role of Web Master.
You can also leave us your suggestions for improvement by using this LINK. The club needs new ideas and suggestions for making this the best club in Durham!
Negotiations with the Town of Ajax:
We don't have a lot more to say about this, as the Town has advised us they will not open up our agreement to discuss a more equitable and fair financial agreement BUT they have given us permission to erect a Gazebo so keep an eye for that to be installed mid May.
Any questions, please drop us an email at ajaxtennisclub@gmail.com
